Bronze Star Medal Presentation to McCorkle Family

The U.S. Army has awarded the bronze star medal for meritorious service to former first sergeant Glen A. McCorkle while serving with 183rd Aviation Company, 1st Aviation Brigade in 1970, at the end of his second deployment to Vietnam.

1st SGT McCorkle joined the Army in July 1949 and retired in November 1970.

During his career he served for two years in the Korean War and also two years in Vietnam. In 1950 1st SGT McCorkles Engineer Unit supported the atomic bomb test at the Marshall Islands and later in Nevada in 1957.

He transferred to aviation in 1958 serving in many different positions from aircraft maintenance to crew chief.

Other awards include senior aircraft crewman badge, good conduct medal 4 awards, meritorious unit citation “Vietnam”, Korea service medal and Vietnam service medal.

Howard County Veterans Affairs Officer Milton Puryear presented the bronze star medal this week to McCorkle’s son Grady McCorkle and daughter Cleo Chesshir.
