Greetings from Crater of Diamonds State Park! Screens are among the most useful tools in searching for diamonds at the park. They help sort gravel quickly and when used properly can improve your chances of finding a diamond!
The park rents screens and other helpful tools for diamond searching, but many people like to build their own screens to make their time here even more memorable. On Friday, September 20, from 9 to 11 a.m., Crater of Diamonds State Park will host a box screen building workshop. Participants will make their own screens at the Diamond Discovery Center classroom and take them into the diamond search area to learn how to use them and the best places to search for diamonds.
Work gloves and screwdrivers will be provided. All ages are welcome to attend, but children should bring an adult to help put their screens together. Participants should dress for the weather and bring their own shovels and buckets, if desired. Rental equipment will also be available at the park.
Contact the park at 870-285-3113 or CraterofDiamonds@arkansas.com to register for Build a Box Screen by Friday, September 6. Cost is $10 per screen, payable at the visitor center on the day of the workshop. Space is limited, with a minimum of four participants required. To allow for more visitors to participate, please limit two screens per family. Who knows? The screen that you build could be the one that finds your very own diamond!
