Following recent flash flooding, city of Murfreesboro officials are reviewing areas that require drainage improvements. The city will be working with a contractor this week to improve some streets that often flood. Culvert work is planned for east Main Street, 3rd Avenue, Stevens Lane, and Maple Street.
A street paving project has also been approved and will start in September.
The Murfreesboro City Council has approved the tourism committee to send a letter to the Murfreesboro Community Foundation to request that they relinquish the former city service station on the square. Council members discussed possible improvements for the building at Monday’s monthly meeting, which would be eligible for grant funding if the city owned the property. The Foundation would still manage the funds under the plan. Usage of the service station would provide public restrooms for the square and an area for tourist information.
In other business at Monday’s meeting, the council also toured the former Arvest building to discuss plans for the new city hall.
