The Nashville City Council has approved the police department to partner with the Nashville School District and seek the hiring of a School Resource Officer.
Police Chief Amy Marion said the SRO officer will have a contract through the department and be a city employee, with access to insurance and other benefits. The district and local police department would split the cost of the salary. Currently, only a few districts in the state operate with an officer that is funded entirely by the school…most are partnering with a local law enforcement agency. At this time, only one position is being sought, with the officer to split time between all of the Nashville school campuses.
Applications are currently being accepted through July 31st.
