As the Dierks School District prepares for the start of the new school year, the Dierks School Board approved several handbook changes as listed by the building principals during a Tuesday meeting.
New high school principal Chad Lites listed changes to the in school suspension program that will require students to finish all assigned work and ban them from using electronic devices while in ISS. Lites also said the tobacco policy had been updated to disallow vaping and ecigarattes. Students will also not be allowed to park in the front staff/visitor parking lot.
Elementary principal Lori Finley discussed ways to decrease student absences and improve student conduct. She also presented changes to the elementary dress code and said that the biggest issue is with jeans that have holes in them.
The Dierks School Board also approved a recommendation from high school principal Lites to remove creative writing from the graduation requirements.
Board members also approved the following bids: Hiland Dairy- milk, Flowers Baking Co.- Bread, and PFG and Cisco as vendors.
Following an executive session, the board approved adding Larry Jones and Tony Martin to the district substitute list.
