Flashing Red Kids Ahead Campaign

An annual campaign by the Arkansas Department of Education aims to promote school bus safety. Nashville School District Transportation Director Bunch Nichols says “Flashing Red, Kids Ahead” reminds drivers that it is illegal to pass stopped school buses when their red lights are flashing, as students are getting on and off the bus. In April, Arkansas school bus drivers reported 884 instances of motorists illegally passing stopped school buses in one day. Twelve of those instances occurred on the right side of the bus, where students enter and leave the bus.

Act 166 of 2019 places tougher penalties on violations, with fines of $500 up to $2500 for drivers that pass stopped buses with red lights flashing.
