The Howard County Extension Service is now holding registration for free on-farm bangs vaccinations of heifer calves ages 4 to 12 months to prevent Brucellosis. This program is free of charge through the Arkansas Livestock and Poultry Commission and USDA. Calves must be penned and ranchers must have working restraint facilities.
Brucellosis is reproductive disease in cattle that is caused by a bacterial infection in the reproductive tract of cattle.
Arkansas is considered to be free of Brucellosis, but Arkansas law still requires that all replacement heifers receive the free vaccine when they are between four and twelve months of age.
The vaccination date in Howard County is April 30th. Contact Samantha Kroll for more information at 870-845-7517.
The vaccination date in Hempstead County is May 6th. Deadline to signup is May 3rd. Contact Stacey Stone at 870-777-5771 to register.
