Glenwood City Council Meets May 21

The Glenwood City Council wil next meet on Tuesday, May 21st at 5:30. Sharon Noble, City Recorder/Treasurer says a proposed water rate hike is on the agenda. The water and sewer department operations in the past decade have been controversial subjects for many citizens. The newly appointed citizen committee has been studying financial information given to them. A couple of months ago, the council was told the city of Glenwood needed more than $200,000+ to make up current city water and sewer losses. That news was shared in the January council meeting, to the new mayor and council. This week, Mayor BT Smith told the committee that $85,000 is now essential.

The proposal is to increase water bills by 15 percent, or about seven dollars for the average customer… for the 1,400 city and rural water customers on the Glenwood system. According to city officials this would bring in about $100,000.
