Arkansas Governor Asa Hutchinson unveiled his highway funding plan during a press conference on Monday, in what he called the “largest single highway plan in our history.” Hutchinson said his proposal would provide $300 million annually to state highways. The plan would add another $110 million to cities and counties through a half-cent sales tax extension for ten years. A new fuel tax would also add three cents a gallon to gas prices and six cents a gallon to diesel.
Governor Hutchinson noted that even with the tax increases, residents would still see a decrease due to his previous tax cuts and the reduction in the grocery tax.
Thirty five million dollars would also come from casino tax revenues.
