Howard Co Receives Funding to pave portion of Gillham Lake Road

Howard County has received 33 thousand 400 dollars from the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission to pave a small section of the Gillham Lake Road. County Judge Kevin Smith said the paving will cover some hilly terrain near the dam. While there is vehicle access to the lake from Howard, Polk & Sevier Counties, the road from Highway 71 through Sevier & Polk counties leading to Gillham Lake is completely paved. However, access from Highway 278 in Howard county is dirt…and not easily traveled through mostly Weyerhaeuser owned property. Judge Smith said he plans continue working with the Game & Fish Commission’s marine fuel tax program in the next few years to hopefully receive enough money to pave the entire lake road in Howard county.
