State auditors are questioning how 10 thousand 900 dollars was spent through the Howard County Drug Court Program in 2017. In conducting the annual audit, it was determined that adequate documentation was not provided on 40 disbursements through the drug court..which operates under the jurisdiction of circuit judges.
The funds being questioned included 6 thousand 850 dollars spent on guest speakers, 2 thousand 450 dollars on catering, 445 dollars for supplies, 83 dollars spent on unknown items, and a total of one thousand 72 dollars spent on behalf of drug court participants.
Howard County Treasurer Sheri Mixon said the questioned disbursements are part of a 20 thousand dollar grant received by the local drug court program. In addition to the 2017 state audit findings, Mixon said county officials have also raised questions themselves regarding some other purchases and spending requests from the drug court.
