Howard county’s quorum court meeting for May was mostly an informational session Monday. J.p.’s heard a report from hospital C.F.O. Bill Craig. He told court members the local hospital is seeing an increase in patients from Sevier county while the De Queen Hospital is not operating. Craig presented a financial snapshot for the month of February. During that month, Howard Memorial saw both increased inpatient and emergency room visits over what had been expected.
Craig also said a recent audit of Nashville’s hospital revealed ranks extremely high when compared to similar size hospitals in the state.
County Judge Kevin Smith reported the county’s energy saving audit is continuing. One possible recommendation the county may see is the installation of solar panels. Judge Smith said the county’s electric bill last year was more than 67 thousand dollars. By installing commercial style solar panels at the old hospital location, the county could possibly see its electric bill reduced to almost nothing.
County Treasurer Sheri Mixon also noted that every county in the state will be receiving about 37 thousand 543 dollars in turnback funds from the state this year. The money is from mineral rights. Last year, Howard county didn’t receive any mineral rights money.
