From McCaskill Mayor Marion Hoosier:
Saturday, June 8th the Town of McCaskill celebrated its 5th annual McCaskill Days event with a fish fry, antique car show, a gun display from Old Washington, vendors, and music.
This McCaskill Days which is sponsored by the McCaskill Community Development Committee was the best event ever.
We were blessed with a beautiful day, and a big crowd that turned out for good food, a spirited cake auction, and some great door prize drawings. Everyone shopped with our vendors buying Tees, jewelry, and sweet smelling soaps and candles.
Each year we recognize a citizen or citizens in our community for their outstanding service and dedication in helping McCaskill become a better place to live. We make this selection between January and March.
The year we recognized Bubba Linzy and John and Robin Helser as our Citizens of the Year. We presented John and Robin their plaque at our Pot Luck Supper in May because they relocated to New York.
Bubba passed away before he could receive his plaque. It was only fitting that we presented his award Posthumously to his mother Virginia Huckabee and family.
Bubba was a good friend to us. He was faithful to this town in all its functions and projects. He will be missed.
We also awarded plaques to the Hempstead County Sheriffs Dept., Hope Parks and Recreation, Robin Lee with Hope Parks and Recreation, and Scott Wood with Redde Ice. The plaques were awarded for each of their ” Hard Work and Dedication in making McCaskill Days a Success for the last 5 years”.
We would like to thank all the many sponsors, antique car owners, vendors, Old Washington display, McCaskill VFD Fire Truck display, cake auction contributors, door prize contributors and all the others who helped make this one of our best events ever.
The Town of McCaskill would like to thank the McCaskill Community Development Committee, and cook team headed up by Gerald Moses, Joe White, Chuck Kissman, and Bruce Densmore, servers Mandy Spicer, Glenda Norwood, Carol Kissman, Betty Densmore, Mary Jo Spicer, Karen Tewalt, and Terry Pagona, traffic and parking Art Apodaca, media Wendall Hoover with Hope Prescott News, Grounds keepers Joe White and Art Apodaca, accounting and pictures Kathy Apodaca, cake auction Glenda Norwood and Jerry Don Morton, McCaskill Days flyer Megan Newman, music and sound equipment, Jerome Underwood, Judge Jerry Crane and the Hempstead County Solid Waste Dept. and all those that helped clean up afterwards. A special thanks to board President Danny Spicer, Mary Jo Spicer, Art and Kathy Apodaca, Joe White, Jerry Don Morton, Wendall Hoover, Gary Gorum, and to Jeannie Sue Gorum our McCaskill Days event coordinator, without them McCaskill Days could not happen.
Finally: To the community of McCaskill and all those that attended the 5th Annual McCaskill Days. Through your donations and our fish fry we raised close to $2,500.00 at this years event. This will go along ways to help us pay for the new parking lot we recently added. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
Watching as old friends visit, catch up on past news, reminisce about the days gone by, the kids running around, laughing and playing, sitting up in the drivers seat and looking out the windows of the fire truck, joking and kidding around the cook tent, admiring all the beautiful antique cars, Ernie Cox firing an occasional gun blast, scaring the daylights out of everyone, and the good music, I realized this is what McCaskill Days is all about.
If you were unable to attend our event this year you missed a good time.
Next year will be even bigger and better.
I hope we get to see you at next years 6th annual McCaskill Days!
