The Arkansas Legislature passed a bill last month that will allow the city of Murfreesboro to collect a tourism fee off of sales generated from the Crater of Diamonds State Park.
The general assembly of the state of Arkansas enacted Act 560, which amends the law pertaining to municipal advertising and promotion taxes. The law will allow local governments to obtain revenue to support the parks and tourism industry.
The city of Murfreesboro and other municipalities will only be allowed to collect sales tax from the admission price of a state park, or from restaurants and rental accommodations for sleeping as previously defined.
The city council discussed the new law at Monday’s monthly meeting and will also look at allowing restaurants to apply for alcohol permits from the Alcoholic Beverage Control Division.
