The Nashville School Board Tuesday evening accepted the resignation of Nashville Primary School Principal Shirley Wright, who has been teaching for 41 years…31 in Nashville. Also, ALE Instructor Deb Marshall (10 and a half years at Nashville), junior high girls basketball coach Laura Kidd (5 years at Nashville, 25 overall) and elementary teacher Morgan Howard (11 years). These resignations are effective at the end of the school year. Other resignations included high school band director Sara Jo Morris (7 years), whose family is moving to Sherwood. Johnny Wilson also resigned as a bus driver (47 years), but will remain teaching.
School Board President Mark Canaday also announced that he would not be running for re-election. He has served 15 years, also completing over 200 hours of ASBA training.
Following an almost hour executive session, Superintendent Doug Graham announced that the district would start advertising for a school resource officer and the other open positions. He also mentioned that the district would first accept applications from within for the primary principal position.
The board also approved the contracts for Assistant Superintendent Joe Kell, Maintenance/Transportation/Athletic Director Bunch Nichols, Curriculum Coordinator Kim Slayton and building principals Tate Gordon, DJ Graham, and Rick Rebsamen.
In other business, the board adopted a resolution to hold the annual school election on May 21st of this year, approved the 2019-2020 school calender, and the 2020-2021 proposed budget.
The Nashville School District had a clean audit for year 2018.
