National School Breakfast week

This week is National School Breakfast week and Nashville Food Service Director Julie Smith says it is a great time to stress the importance of eating breakfast each morning.

“This year’s theme for National School Breakfast week is “Start your Engines With School Breakfast” It is designed to show parents, students and School officials the benefits of fueling up for the day with a healthy breakfast. We will be giving small prizes in lucky breakfast bags this week to Primary and Elementary School kids. Prizes will be randomly placed in the breakfast in the classroom bags for some lucky students to win.”

Nashville started the Universal Free Breakfast in the Classroom in December of 2017. Smith says this has greatly boosted the breakfast participation.

“This boosted our breakfast participation from serving around 85 breakfast per day to serving around 1350 per day. This program has been a great success and we still serve around 1350 breakfast per day.”

Smith says five lunch entree choices are now being offered at Nashville Primary and elementary schools.

Aramark is also currently seeking locations for the summer feeding program. Please contact the Nashville School District administration building for more information.
