Open House for new Mineral Springs School Facility

The DeQueen Mena Educational Cooperative hosted a superintendent’s meeting at the new Mineral Springs School District K-12 Facility today (Thursday, April 18). The district also hosted an open house with tours of the building for residents and local organizations. Construction of the building has been completed, with some of the technology still being installed. Once the school year is complete, teachers will be furnishing rooms and moving over any needed equipment from the old building. The new cafeteria is already in operation.

Architect Craig Boone of Architecture Plus said the challenge of designing the K-12 building was installing all of the requirements on a limited site and keeping the younger and older students separated. Boone says his company works to make every building unique and functional.

Director of Technology Adam West says the building’s technology should last the next twenty years and will provide additional learning opportunities. The district used several vendors and partnered with Aruba to install the network, which will be the fastest in the state. Mineral Springs will be an all Apple school, with every student receiving an Ipad. Wireless internet is available throughout the campus to meet the one to one initiative.
