The University of Arkansas Cooperative Extension Service says many state households have not benefited from the growth of the state economy. New information released in the 2019 Rural Profile of Arkansas noted a two percent decline in the median household income during 2010 to 2016. During that same period, the median household income in rural areas of the state declined three percent. The change in median household income in Howard and Pike counties ranged from zero to a negative ten percent, while Hempstead county’s median household income dropped more than ten percent. Clark and Sevier counties saw a slight increase during the same period. This information was computed from the American Community Survey 5-Year Estimates of the U.S. Census Bureau.
