UA Cossatot Director of Educational Resources and OER Specialist Relinda Ruth of Dierks was recently selected to serve on the Open Textbook Network (OTN) Steering Committee for a two-year term. “This is a great honor,” Ruth said. “I am excited to work with dedicated individuals who are devoted to making higher education more accessible through the use of open textbooks.”
Ruth will join the six-member Steering Committee, alongside members from Colorado State University, the Private Academic Library Network of Indiana, the University of Arizona, Minnesota State and Penn State University. The Steering Committee offers field perspectives, provides guidance and support for OTN leadership, and offers outreach to OTN membership.
In 2018, UA Cossatot became the first institution in Arkansas to join the OTN. The OTN includes nearly a thousand institutions, both nationally and internationally. Its mission promotes access, affordability, and student success by using open textbooks and free open educational resources (OER). Ruth attended OTN’s July 2018 Summer Institute and Summit in Minnesota. As the college’s OER Specialist and an OER contact for Arkansas, she will continue training to facilitate future workshops and encourage the use of openly licensed materials across the state.
