Much of Monday’s Nashville City Council meeting included discussion about upcoming sidewalk projects. Public Works Director Larry Dunaway says phase II should go to bid soon. Phase III of the sidewalk project has been funded, however the specific route has not been determined. The current proposal is for the sidewalk to be installed on the south side of Sunset Street from the three-way-stop at 4th Street, west to the top of the hill near the park.
Nashville resident Jack Bennett lives on Sunset Street and cautioned the council about having the sidewalk end at the top of the hill and turn on Pleasant Mount Road. He cited safety concerns and has witnessed several accidents at that location. Dunaway said that they had also looked at maybe turning south on north 12th Street.
Fire Chief Justin Thornton reported that three additional storm sirens would be available soon. The city was able to create three sirens from other parts and are looking at installing them in hard-to-hear areas.
