Barry Groomes of Hooten’s speaks to Nashville Rotary Club

Barry Groomes of Hooten’s Football Magazine spoke to the Nashville Rotary Club on Wednesday, sharing his insights and predictions for the upcoming Arkansas high school football season.
Groomes said Hooten’s Football Magazine is the largest preseason football magazine in America. He explained that the publication began in 1992, when the Arkansas Razorbacks moved from the Southwest Conference to the Southeastern Conference.
Groomes also highlighted the top teams in Arkansas in each classification, giving Rotary members a look at some of the programs expected to make an impact this season.
He said he considers the 8-4A Conference to be the toughest conference in Class 4A and also provided a breakdown of the teams competing in 7-4A.
Groomes also addressed what he described as a disturbing trend in high school football—the growing number of coaching changes. He said the trend could lead to more coaches requesting and signing multi-year contracts when accepting new coaching positions.
Listeners can hear Groomes’ Hooten’s Friday Night predictions on Drive-Time Sports on KNAS 98.7 The Maverick every Friday afternoon throughout the Arkansas high school football season.
