Black Bears the topic at Nashville Rotary Club meeting
Eley Talley, a biologist with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission was the guest speaker this week at the Nashville Rotary Club.
Talley discussed the history of black bears in Arkansas and the travels of the male sub-adult black bear that was spotted in the area last week. He said the bear was probably living north of Nashville in the Corinth area and then wandered east toward the Bingen area.
Talley said the bear eventually climbed a utility pole and was electrocuted
Talley said the AGFC’s goal concerning black bears is to allow the bears to move around, as long as they are not causing issues for people.
Talley said the presence of black bears in South Arkansas is a sign of a healthy eco-system.
Talley also mentioned some opening dates for alligator and deer season.
Talley also encouraged outdoors men and women to visit the AGFC’s website and register for a customer ID number.
