Blevins Council Unable to Conduct Business Due to Lack of Quorum

The Blevins City Council was scheduled to hold its regular monthly meeting Tuesday night, but no official business could be conducted because a quorum was not present.

During the gathering, Mayor John Moore announced that he will not seek re-election when his term expires later this year. Moore encouraged local residents to consider running for mayor or for one of the city’s five council seats.

Moore explained that candidates must obtain at least 10 signatures from registered voters living in Blevins and complete a Statement of Financial Interest. He noted that the required forms can be downloaded by searching for “Arkansas Statement of Financial Interest” online.

According to Moore, the filing period for municipal candidates will open at noon on Wednesday, July 29, and close at noon on Wednesday, August 5.

Although he will not seek another term, Moore said he will continue serving as mayor through the end of his term on December 31. He also pledged to continue working on behalf of Blevins residents, particularly on the city’s ongoing sewer project.
