Brief pursuit lands driver in jail on drug charges

A Nashville man has been arrested after a brief vehicle pursuit with local police. Chief Amy Marion said K9 Officer Greg Parker observed a vehicle being driven by 51 year old Sherwood Jones, who was known by police to have a suspended license. Officer Parker attempted to make a traffic stop on Jones’ Nissan Altima near the Sypert and 6th Street intersection, but authorities say Jones failed to stop and continued traveling east on Sypert Street, before turning south on 4th Street. Narcotics officer Mark Barnes joined the pursuit and help bring it to an end at 3rd and Henderson, where Jones was taken into custody without incident. During the pursuit, officers said they observed Jones throw two objects from the passenger side front window. Police retrieved the items and say they were two plastic bags containing a crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.
Jones was transported to the Howard County Jail and is facing charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance-Methamphetamine, with Purpose to Deliver. He’s also charged with fleeing and driving on a suspended license.
