Citizens Celebrated Howard County’s 150th Birthday

Yesterday Howard County Judge Brent Pinkerton along with citizens of Howard County celebrated the Sesquicentennial Birthday of Howard County Arkansas.

In observance of Howard County’s Sesquicentennial Birthday Judge Pinkerton moved the quorum court meeting to Center Point along with issuing a proclamation for Howard County and a brief history of the Howard County seat.

Field Representative Jessi Solely

During the quorum court meeting, Field Representative Jessi Solely of US Senator John Boozman’s office made a presentation to Howard County by reading a letter from Senator Boozman. In the letter Senator Boozman stated that he’s grateful for the local leaders of Howard County who work hard to preserve the past and create opportunities for the future. 

Also, during the quorum court meeting Treasurer Sherri Mixon stated that she made a transfer in the amount of $200,000 which made the General Fund $1,490,919.55. Mixon even provided a breakdown of what projects the ARP Fund was spent on, and she stated the ending balance was $2,210,855.63. Mixon mentioned that she is in the process of making a yearly report for the ARP Fund that has to be turned in by the end of the month. Mixon also discussed whether the District Court brought in their fines for the month and that sales tax is still the same as last month. Justices of the peace approved a motion to accept the financial report for the month of March.

Justices of the Peace also approved a motion to appoint Dr Carla Humphrey as the Chief of Staff for the Howard Memorial Hospital Board who will be taking the place of Dr John Hearnsberger.

Judge Pinkerton informed Jp’s that Howard County Office of Emergency Management Coordinator Cecil McGee turned in his resignation and that he is moving from county level to state level to be the Southwest Area Coordinator. McGee stated that he will help train the new Emergency Management Coordinator and that he’s looking forward to his new job. McGee informed the quorum that he applied for an AWIN Grant along with ordering equipment for the Center Point Fire Department.
