City of Dierks applying for fun park grant
The city of Dierks is applying to the Arkansas Parks and Tourism Department for a $100,000 dollar fun park grant. City council members adopted the resolution at Monday’s regular July meeting. The money can be used for a wide variety of items, including equipment, sidewalks, backstops, or a pavilion.
Mayor Ronnie Cogburn also reported on the need for new outflow pipes at the town’s water towers. It was previously thought the city could purchase the pipes at cost of about $10,000 dollars. However, Mayor Cogburn says he has since learned the pipes must be steel, which will push the project to a cost of $32,000 dollars. Council members approved the purchase, to keep the city in compliance with regulations, taking the money from the water depreciation fund.
Monday’s council meeting also featured 23 minute executive session to discuss personnel. Police Chief John McKee met with council members for the entirety of the executive session. The town’s legal council was called into the meeting in the final two minutes of the session. Once returning to the open meeting, it was announced that no action would be taken.
