City of Mineral Springs considering Nexbillpay system for water office
Monday during the regular monthly meeting of the Mineral Springs City Council, council members approved two changes to the city’s personnel policy handbook.
The changes included adding Juneteenth, which is June 19th to the list of holidays and stating that the work week begins at 7 am Monday morning.
Council members also voted to write-off 18 bad water customer accounts that totaled over $2,500.
Council members then heard a presentation from the Water Works office manager concerning the purchase of a credit card processing service from Nexbillpay.
Kathy Jones informed the council that the startup cost would be $150 and that there would be an annual fee of $150. Other than that, she said customers who pay their water bills with a debit or credit card would pay a fee of $2.50. Jones said if the city collected $75 in fees there would be no additional expense to the city. However, if the city did not collect $75 in fees during a particular month, the city would be responsible to pay up to $75.
Jones said this would give water customers three options to pay their bills each month, including a monthly bank draft, cash or debit or credit card.
Council members voted to table the matter and asked Jones to conduct a survey over the next 30-days to see how many Mineral Springs water customers would use the Nexbillpay system.
