City of Mineral Springs Discusses 2024 Elections
Aldermen of the Mineral Springs City Council held their regular monthly meeting Monday.
Mayor Tullis discussed with the council about creating a resolution stating how the city council candidates will be elected in 2024. Tullis mentioned how the city of Mineral Springs have been voting citywide instead of by ward for so many years. After further discussion, there was a 4 to 2 vote for all city council candidates to be voted by ward. Tullis stated they will have a copy of the paperwork for Howard County Clerk Keri Teague along with getting an ordinance approved which will be in regard to the 2024 elections.
There was also a motion made by aldermen Frankie Harris and seconded by Earl Hadden to approve the resolution for the $500,000 dollar grant money. All were in favor of the motion.
Water and Sewer Superintendent Eric Marks talked to the council about purchasing a part in the amount of $5600 to fix a leak and other items that were needed for his department. There was a motion made by aldermen Frankie Harris and seconded by Vanessa Hendrix to purchase the $5600 part with the ARPA funds. All were in favor of the motion. There was also a 5 to 1 vote to purchase a new golf cart in the amount of $9,000 dollars. Marks stated that the cart is needed so workers could have a way to get around to check meters and have a way to be en route to do additional work in the city. Marks also updated the council on the location of the generator. Marks said that they are just waiting on the generator to come to land.
Mineral Springs Fire Chief Christ Hostetler reported that they currently have a siren at the Fire Department that they added a horn to for greater coverage. Hostetler also stated that a second siren has been installed at the City Hall and the installation is now complete and he will announce when it will be tested at a later date.
