City of Nashville updates ordinance concerning property condemnation

The Nashville City Council has amended the city’s ordinance that deals with property condemnation.  Code Enforcement Officer David Riggs asked council members to include a section in the ordinance that allows the city to declare a nuisance on any property which is considered to be a fire and safety hazard to electrical issues.  Riggs said the previous ordinance was vague on its wording.  In some cases, there are properties with exposed wiring, according to Riggs. Also at Monday’s meeting, Fire Chief Justin Thornton reported on the new weather sirens the council recently approved to increase coverage.  Thornton said crews are expected to be in Nashville today to begin setting the poles and installing the sirens.  Electrical power will need to be run by the city to the poles, and the installation process will be complete once that has been done.
