City-wide clean-up in Mineral Springs April 18-29

The City of Mineral Springs will be conducting a city-wide clean-up April 18 through April 29.

Water Superintendent Eric Marks announced the city will be picking up unwanted items, including old furniture, appliances and other unwanted items for the citizens of Mineral Springs, however, the items must be placed on the curb. He said small items will be picked up for free, but city employees will keep a record of large items and residents will be charged a fee to help cover the tipping fees at the landfill.

City Recorder/Treasurer Denise Juniel stated the city would be holding a city-wide Easter Egg Hunt on Sunday, April 17 at 3 pm in the Mineral Springs City Park.

Marks also made several recommendations to the council for their future consideration. He explained the city has a manual start generator at the sewer pond. Last week, when the power went off at the sewer pond four manholes overflowed during the time that it took him to drive to the pond and turn on the generator. He said that ADEQ violation would not have occurred if the city had a generator at the sewer pond with an automatic start. Marks asked the council to consider purchasing an automatic start generator with some of the funds the city expects to receive in June.

Marks also informed the council that the bacteria in the sewer pond that helps eliminate the solid waste is dying due to a lack of oxygen in the water. He said the city needed to purchase some diffusers to help replenish the oxygen in the water. Marks said the pond was 10-acres and had been in use for 23-years.

The city will also be accepting bids on an old Chevy sanitation truck. The starting bid will be $2,500.

And finally, Police Chief Fransico Mercado addressed the council concerning dogs that are running lose within the city. He stated the city has an ordinance for citizens to keep their dogs under control. He said the city is going to put out dog traps and have animal control pick up any loose dogs.
