Communication Boards at Nashville City Park: A New Tool for Inclusivity
In an effort to make public spaces more inclusive, the Howard Memorial Hospital Pediatric Therapy Center has partnered with Nashville City Park to place communication boards throughout the park. Yesterday, we had the chance to speak with Lorenn Haskins and Skylar Baker from the Pediatric Therapy Center about the new initiative.
Baker explained how these picture-based boards will work to help those who have difficulty with verbal communication.
Lorenn Haskins shared that the communication boards are already made and delivered to Nashville City Park. She emphasized that the boards are designed to be user-friendly for children of all ages, ensuring accessibility for everyone.
Haskins also gave insight into the process of finding and selecting the boards, sharing that they were able to locate signs that could be easily implemented within the park’s layout.
This new initiative is expected to foster a more inclusive environment for all visitors to Nashville City Park. Stay tuned for part two of our conversation, where we’ll learn more about how the boards will be utilized and the broader impact they could have on the community.
