CONSUMER ALERT: EBT Scams on the Rise in Arkansas

The Arkansas Attorney General’s Office is warning residents about a sharp increase in Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) scams across the state. Scammers are stealing funds from EBT cards and using them in other states, leaving Arkansas families without the resources they need to buy groceries.
How it happens:
Criminals are using several tactics to gain access to EBT accounts, including:
- Skimming devices placed on card readers to steal card info during transactions
- Impersonation scams where fraudsters pose as government officials
- Phishing texts and emails claiming PINs are compromised and need to be reset
Who’s at risk?
Anyone using an EBT card can become a target. Officials urge cardholders to:
- Protect their PINs and change them monthly
- Check card readers before use
- Monitor account activity regularly
- Avoid sharing personal info via text or email
If you suspect you’ve been a victim of EBT fraud, report it immediately to your local SNAP office, the Arkansas Department of Human Services at ar.gov/snapfraud, or the Arkansas Attorney General’s Office at (501) 682-2007 or consumer@arkansasag.gov.
Stay alert—and protect your benefits.
