Tuesday night, the South Pike County School Board voted to transfer $566,500 from the district’s ending balance to the building fund, leaving the district with a beginning balance of $765,000 for the new school year.

New superintendent Tanya Wilcher reported the district has finished the summer floor project and the new classroom addition will be completed by the start of the school year in August. She also reported the renovation of the football stadium pressbox and construction of the new bandstand is expected to be finished by the Rattlers first home game.

Board members approved Wilcher’s recommendation to add two flex days and a bereavement day to the teacher’s paid leave policy and they changed the district’s use of facility contract to include a $100 non-refundable deposit.

Wilcher also explained the Murfreesboro Elementary School’s new cell phone policy which states students will place their cell phones in a designated area when they walk into a classroom. She also reported the district will no longer use the A,B,C,D or F grading system for Kindergarten and therefore, there will be no Honor Roll for the Kindergarten classes. However, the district will be using a competency indicator system of grading.
