COVID case confirmed on Dierks High School campus

Dierks Superintendent Jody Cowart reported the block work was complete on JoAnn Walters Elementary School classroom project during the September meeting of the Dierks School Board. He stated the district has a $1.3 million dollar balance on the project, however, the district has saved about $29,000 so far on the project.

Elementary principal, Lori Finley reported all start of the school testing has been completed. She said currently there are 22 current virtual students, while there are 19 virtual students on the high school campus. The district started the school year with 68 virtual students.

Both campuses were rewarded a $4,000 grant through the Weyerhaeuser Giving Grant program.

Board members approved the 2020/2021 budget, the athletic budget and Federal and Categorical budgets.

Cowart also explained the importance of having a dependable wireless system.

Tuesday, the Dierks School District was notified by the Arkansas Department Health of a confirmed case of COVID-19. School officials say the case is located on the high school campus and all department of health protocols have been followed to identify and notify all known probable close contacts.
