Crater of Diamonds State Park celebrating 50th year as an Arkansas state park
The Crater of Diamonds State Park is celebrating its 50th year as an Arkansas state park this year and will hold an anniversary celebration on Friday, April 22 and Saturday, April 23.
Park Interpreter Waymon Cox said they are planning several events to celebrate the park’s 50th.
Cox said more than 4.5 million people from around the world have visited the park over the past 50 years.
Cox said about 35,000 diamonds have been found at the park, a matter of fact he said, the park staff thinks the 35,000th diamond will be found sometime this year, during the 50th anniversary celebration.
Finding a diamond is a thrilling experience for those guests who are fortunate enough to uncover a hidden gem, but Cox said most visitors find something more valuable at the park; he said they find a chance to reconnect with family and friends.
