Death of 3 Year Old in Mineral Springs Attributed to Ongoing Abuse – 2 Arrested

According to a press released issued by the Howard County Sheriff’s Office a Mineral Springs man and woman have been arrested in connection with the death of a 3 year old child.

On November 14th, the Mineral Springs Police Department and the Howard County Sheriff’s Department began an investigation after the 3 year old was taken to Howard Memorial Hospital with injuries. The child was then flown to Children’s Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

During the investigation, officers learned that the child died from what appeared to be ongoing abuse. Devalin Wiseman, the child’s father, and Chasity Holmes were both arrested as a result of the investigation.

Wiseman was arrested for the offense of Murder in the 1st degree and is currently being held at the Howard County Detention Facility on a one million dollar bond. Holmes was arrested for the offense of Permitting Abuse of a Minor, and is currently out on a $50,000 bond.

A formal charging decision will be made by the 9th West Judicial District Prosecuting Attorney. The investigation is still ongoing.
