Deer Seasons to Begin Soon
With the arrival of cooler weather, hunters are preparing for the upcoming deer season in Arkansas. Howard County wildlife officer John Partain says archery season is already underway. Zones in our area will open muzzleloader season on October 19th. The private land anterless only modern gun deer hunt is October 12-16 and modern gun season opens November 9.
The statewide bag limit is six deer, of which no more than two may be bucks. The statewide seasonal bag limit may be taken in any combination of zones or methods, as long as zone bag limits are not exceeded.
Biologist Eley Talley says the Commission continues to monitor chronic wasting disease and has setup a statewide program to aid in the effort.
Talley says the purpose of the testing is to provide peace of mind for hunters and to monitor the spread of the disease. Currently, CWD has not been shown to affect humans. Drop-off locations in our area include in Dierks at the Farmers Association and at Murfreesboro City Hall. The testing is provided free of charge.
