Diamond Found At Crater By Mena Resident

A Mena resident has found a diamond weighing 2.23 carats at the Crater of Diamonds State Park.

Beatrice Watkins found the diamond Saturday while visiting the state park with family. Watkins said she was dry-sifting soil on the north end of a culvert near the center of the park’s diamond searching area when she made the find.

Park officials said the diamond is about the size of an English pea and is dark brown in color.

Watkins’s gem is the largest found at the park since a 3.29-carat brown diamond was found last October.
