Dierks City Council

If things go according to plan, residents of the Dierks area will have a new store to shop at by May or June of next year.  A representative of Family Dollar Tree addressed members of the Dierks City Council Monday evening to seek permission to take over an alley way at the store’s planned construction site.  The 10 thousand 500 square foot store is scheduled to be built on property that previously was home to Weyerhaeuser offices on Highway 70 at the south end of the main business district.

On a vote of four to one, Dierks aldermen agreed to allow the store to have the property, with the only expense being any legal fees associated with the transfer process.  Construction of the new store, which is a combined venture of Dollar Tree & Family Dollar, should begin by the end of this year.

In other council business Monday, preliminary budget discussions began.  Council members were presented the financial numbers for next year & will review those before next month’s meeting.

Following a brief executive session, the council voted to give a three percent pay increase to water department secretary Tracy Parsons.
