Dierks City Council Approves New Sewer Rates, Police Officer Hire, and Water Grant Update
The Dierks City Council held its monthly meeting on Monday, where several key updates were discussed, including the implementation of new sewer rates, the hiring of a new police officer, and the upcoming water grant project.
Beginning with the February billing cycle, Dierks residents will see an increase in their sewer rates. The new rates will be $30.60 for the first 1,000 gallons of usage, with an additional charge of $5.31 for each additional 1,000 gallons. This marks a significant change, as the sewer rates have not been adjusted since 2016, when they were set at $17.00 for the first 1,000 gallons and $3.60 for each additional 1,000 gallons.
In other news, Dierks Police Chief John McKee officially announced the hiring of Stephen Williams as the city’s newest police officer.
McKee also discussed the challenges of property cleanup during the winter months but emphasized that once spring arrives, work will resume, including efforts to clean up both residential and commercial properties.
Mayor Ronnie Cogburn also provided an update on the much-anticipated water grant project. Work on the project is scheduled to begin on January 22, 2025, with an estimated completion time of 90 days, weather permitting. The project aims to improve the city’s water infrastructure and enhance service to residents.
The meeting concluded with discussions on other ongoing city matters, with council members reaffirming their commitment to addressing community needs and improving services for the people of Dierks.
