Dierks City Council Approves Wastewater Project, Adjusts Water Rates

The Dierks City Council met earlier this week and addressed several key issues, including major infrastructure improvements and updates to city policies.
Council members accepted the resignation of Jaron Tipton, thanking him for his service to the city.
Council members also voted to accept a bid from Kampco, Inc. for $3,892,404.15 to complete upcoming wastewater system improvements. The project is contingent upon approval from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission.
In other business, the council voted to cover the cost of Air Evac membership for all city employees. The program, which provides emergency air medical transport, will cost $75 per employee per year.
Two water rate ordinances were also passed during the meeting. For customers living outside city limits, the new minimum rate will be $17.50 for the first 1,000 gallons, with a charge of $8.50 per 1,000 gallons for additional usage—up from the previous rate of $6.50. In North Howard, the water rate increased from $2.00 to $2.50 per 1,000 gallons.
Both rate adjustments were made in accordance with Act 605, which requires cities to conduct a water rate study every five years to ensure sustainability and compliance.
