Dierks City Council Meeting
Monday night, the Dierks City Council approved a sewer adjustment for resident, Gene Simmons. Simmons informed the council that he had a leak under the concrete slab of his home, but it has been fixed.
Mayor Ronnie Cogburn informed the council that the city had received $164,000 from the Howard County Courthouse. He explained it was the restitution amount from the Cheryl Delarosa plea agreement.
Aldermen agreed the mayor should seek advice from the city’s auditor about where the funds should be deposited. Cogburn said he felt the funds will be distributed to the city’s water and sewer funds.
Cogburn also reported the city has two vehicles that are out of service.
One is a patrol vehicle from the police department, while the other is the water department SUV. Aldermen asked the mayor and the police chief to start searching for replacement vehicles.
Cogburn informed the council that the city plans to install lights on one of the baseball fields in the city park. He said the city will purchase the poles and lights from Rich Mountain.
In other business, Cogburn stated the city is still waiting on the state to complete a water rate study to enable the city to adjust water rates and make needed upgrades to the water system.
Cogburn said the water plant is running at capacity for about 22 hours a day.
