Dierks man arrested for theft by receiving

A Dierks man has been charged in connection with property reported as being stolen last month in Howard and Pike counties.  30 year old Carlos Ortiz is charged with a felony count of Theft by Receiving in Howard County.  Authorities say a 2022 Honda ATV was reported stolen.  Officers received information that the ATV was at Ortiz’s house in the Oak Hill Estates near Dierks.  Deputies said they observed an ATV in the property’s back yard that matched the description of the stolen property.  A check of the unit’s serial number returned as a match for the stolen ATV.  Ortiz told deputies he didn’t know how the ATV got to his house.

While at Ortiz’s residence, officers said they also observed a Bad Boy lawnmower, a new garden tiller, a new push lawnmower, and other lawn equipment on the property.  The following day, deputies said they received a theft report on the lawnmower, and Pike County Sheriff’s deputies also reported the theft of the other lawn equipment at Ortiz’s residence.

Police say the Honda ATV was valued at $15,000 dollars and the Bad Boy mower was valued at  $2,500 dollars.
