Dierks School Board approves 4-day school week
Tuesday night, the Dierks School Board held a special called meeting. The meeting was attended by over 30 patrons of the district, most of which were certified and classified staff members.
After electing Wendell Garner as the board’s new secretary, Superintendent Jody Cowart informed the board he had presented newly appointed board member, Todd Moore with the same information that he presented to the board during their regular March board meeting.
Cowart presented the recommendation from the certified and classified PPC committee’s recommendation for a 4-day school week.
Moore announced to those in attendance that he was approached to fill Trey Eckert’s remaining term on the board on February 23 prior to the previous vote and was not asked to serve as a swing vote for this motion.
The 4-day school week was approved by a 3-2 vote with Bubba McSpadden, Jeffrey Mounts and Moore voting for the recommendation and Wendell and Brad Garner voting against it.
Cowart discussed some of the advantages of a 4-day school week for the district.
Board members then voted to accept the resignations of 2nd grade teacher, Samantha Manasco and elementary music teacher, Morgan Boroughs.
