Dierks School Board approves renovation project

During the regular July board meeting of the Dierks School Board, board members approved the building principal‘s recommended handbook changes, a resolution stating they had reviewed and approved the 5 percent salary increases from last year and the transfer of four students into the district.

The district received only one bid for milk and bread from Hiland Dairy. However, this year’s bid did not contain any firm prices due to economic conditions. The district also did not receive a bid for groceries. That item was tabled until August.

Superintendent Grover Hill reported he wanted to move the district bookkeepers from the high school building to the administration building. To accomplish this task, board members approved a bid for $22,962 from Hostetler Brothers Construction for the construction of two offices in the current board room, furniture from National Business Furniture to furnish three offices at a cost of $19,106 and some concrete work on both the high school and elementary campuses at a cost of $17,000. These projects will be paid for with excess bond funds.

Board members approved additional duties for coach Kevin Alexander. Alexander was removed from the assistant softball coach position and named the boys and girls track coach.

Board members also asked Hill to inquire about tearing down the district’s superintendent house that is in disrepair.
