Dierks School Board Holds Regular Monthly Meeting

The Dierks School Board held their regular monthly meeting on Wednesday, where several key decisions were made regarding staff changes, the upcoming school calendar, and district enrollment.

One of the actions that was taken during the meeting was the acceptance of Joey Morris’ resignation. A motion by Justin Simmons and seconded by Laykon Graham was unanimously approved to accept Morris’ resignation as both a teacher and bus driver at the conclusion of the 2024-2025 school year.

In another significant staff decision, the board approved the retirement of Lydia Poore, the district’s elementary secretary. A motion by Kara Tedford and seconded by Jeffrey Mounts passed unanimously, accepting Poore’s retirement, which will be effective March 21, 2025.

The board also reviewed the upcoming school year calendar. A motion by Jeffrey Mounts, seconded by Justin Simmons, was passed unanimously to approve Calendar Option 1 for the 2025-2026 school year.

In addition to staffing and calendar decisions, the board voted to rehire certified staff for the 2025-2026 school year. A motion by Jeffrey Mounts and seconded by Kara Tedford was approved unanimously to re-hire the certified staff as presented.

Mr. Hill gave a brief update on a potential grant opportunity with the Arkansas Department of Transportation (AR DOT), which could benefit the district.

Lastly, the board voted on student enrollments. A motion by Kara Tedford and seconded by Laykon Graham was unanimously approved to accept three students into the district and one student out of the district for the upcoming school year.

The meeting was concluded with no further business. The next regular meeting of the Dierks School Board is scheduled for April 9, 2025.
