“Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”
The Arkansas State Police is working with sheriff’s deputies and city police officers to remind folks this holiday season to “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over”.
According to a recent release the Arkansas Department of Public Safety cited that on average 1 person dies every 52 minutes as a result of drunk driving.
Beginning this week and continuing through January 1st, law enforcement officers across Arkansas are stepping up their mission to protect motorists by taking drunk drivers off the road. An honest warning has been issued that if you are driving impaired and in violation of state law – you will be stopped and taken to jail. With this topic being a life or death matter no leniency will be given.
Director of the Arkansas State Police, Colonel Bill Bryant says, “A death caused by a drunk driver is preventable that’s why we try every day to remove impaired drivers from the roads before it’s too late.”
This violation brings the possibility of having your driver’s license revoked, higher insurance rates, lost wages and additional criminal charges if the result is a crash that injures or leads to the death of another person.
As always, plan ahead if you know you are going to be drinking by finding a ride to your next destination, if you see a driver who appears to be impaired – don’t hesitate to call 911. And always remember to buckle up as your seat belt is your best defense against a drunk driver.
