Dunaway updates Nashville Rotary Club on city projects

Wednesday afternoon, Nashville Public Works director Larry Dunaway provided the Nashville Rotary Club with an update on projects within the City of Nashville.

Dunaway stated several projects have been funded and are currently being planned and designed while others are awaiting funding. He said these projects are funded with grants, money from the Arkansas Natural Resources Commission, Southwest Arkansas Planning District funds and COVID relief funds.

Some of those projects include a drainage system upgrade on Main Street from the railroad tracks to the Nashville Plumbing building, new sidewalks on Main Street from the railroad tracks to the Hope highway, a new bridge on Mount Pleasant Drive by Wilson Park, and a sidewalk project on Sunset Street from Fourth to the Nashville City Park.

Dunaway explained the city plans to raise the bridge on Mount Pleasant Drive to the same height as the walking bridge and re-align the intersection.

Dunaway said the health department recently conducted an inspection and informed the city it must upgrade the water treatment plant because it is operating at 89 percent of its capacity.

Dunaway said that upgrade would also result in additional upgrades to the water distribution system.

Dunaway also reported it cost $2 a square foot to pave a city street. He said it would cost $20,000 to pave one block or $264,000 to pave one mile. He said the City of Nashville has approximately 100 miles of city streets.
