Extension Agent Highlights Composting, Dutch Oven Cooking and Canning Ahead of Homesteading Conference

As the Southwest Arkansas Homesteading Conference approaches, Codie McAlister, Pike County Extension Agent–Agriculture with the Pike County Extension Office, is sharing more details about what participants can expect.

In part two of a recent interview, McAlister began by discussing composting and identifying the individual who will lead that session during the conference.

McAlister then highlighted some of the recipes that will be demonstrated at the event, including sessions featuring Dutch oven cooking.

In closing, McAlister outlined the different types of canning that will be covered, emphasizing the importance of understanding proper methods and safety guidelines when preserving food.

The Homesteading Conference will take place at the UA Cossatot Nashville Campus, located at 1558 U.S. 371. McAlister said registration will be available at the door on the day of the event for $30.

Organizers encourage anyone interested in gardening, food preservation, composting or homesteading skills to attend.
