A Newhope man has plead guilty this week to charges of Negligent Homicide. Michael Shane House, who turned 32 years old Wednesday, was sentenced on his birthday to ten years in prison. The felony charge was related to a motor vehicle accident that occurred in November 2020 at Umpire. State police determined House was intoxicated while driving the S.U.V. involved in the single vehicle accident that claimed the life of a Hot Springs woman.
In addition to the felony charge, House was also ordered to pay a $350 dollar fine on a misdemeanor D.W.I. count.
Also Wednesday, 23 year old Royce Lanicek, of Mineral Springs, was sentenced to two years in the Arkansas Department of Corrections and given an additional year’s suspended sentence on charges of 2nd Degree Battery.
A former Howard County Jail employee was sentenced to probation and fined $1,500 dollars. 23 year old Jeremiah Young, of Hope, was given the three year probated sentence on forgery charges. According to reports, while employed at the jail, Young told supervisors he had tested positive for Covid-19 and produced a signed letter from an employee of the Lansdell Medical Clinic, confirming the Covid positivity. Deputies determined the clinic was not in operation at the time and Young admitted to forging the letter and faking his positive test.
